Stop suspending pupils « Result #2 on Dec 28, 2009, 1:44pm »
Schools are being told to dramatically cut the number of detentions and suspensions imposed on unruly pupils. Academics said “punitive” measures did little to address bad behaviour and may actually be fuelling the problem.
CfBT Education Trust, a charity, called for greater use of liberal methods in which bullies and classroom yobs are made to confront their victims. Better still, how about bringing back the cane?

Child protection data left on train « Result #4 on Dec 28, 2009, 1:41pm »
An urgent review has been ordered after a confidential child protection report was left on a train. The 15-page Haringey Council file, which included details about a boy taken away from his mother over fears he could be abused, was found in a railway carriage in London.
A council spokesman said, "This is an isolated case, but of course the council is extremely concerned that sensitive papers relating to child safety appear to have been left on public transport." I'll bet it is. More likely concerned that the public now know how inept the council is at safeguarding personal data.
The spokesman added, "It is the position of the council that such documents should be stored and used securely. We will urgently review our procedures and tighten them where necessary to make sure it doesn't happen again." Further proof, in any were needed, that personal information is not safe as we all know this will not happen.

Re: Winter will be mild « Result #7 on Dec 26, 2009, 9:47pm »
A blast of Arctic weather will send temperatures plummeting to -18C and bring another week of transport chaos. Up to four inches of snow is expected to blanket half the country, blocking roads and stranding motorists. A swathe of the country including Liverpool, Birmingham, London and Wales is expected to bear the brunt of the snow, with night-time temperatures plunging to -10C. Northern areas including Newcastle, Cumbria and Scotland will see less of the snow but overnight chill factors will plummet to -18.
Forecaster Jonathan Powell said, “We are tracking a system that will push in from Russia and Siberia, making landfall in the South-east and splitting the country in two. From North Wales down, taking in the Midlands, some three to four inches of snow will fall. Temperatures will fall below freezing but the wind chill factor will be the killer, making it feel as cold as -8C in London. The rest of the country will be drier and brighter but very cold, with the wind chill factor making it feel like -18C."
He added, “We are back to the typical British winters of the 1980s where it’s cold throughout with few lulls. It’s quite possible that we will see this type of winter more regularly but it’s how winter should be. This is going to be one of the most sustained cold winters in the last 20 years. Usually we get a couple of weeks where it’s freezing and then it’s mild, like last February, but we are in for a long spell this time.” So much for Global Warming!
On the one hand Jonathan Powell believes we're in for a long cold winter while the Met Office believes we will have a mild winter. Well, in a few months time we'll know which one was talking out of their arse !!!!!!!!!!!!
Two Fat Ladies .... « Result #9 on Dec 26, 2009, 4:32pm »
A local councillor who calls the numbers at charity bingo sessions has stopped saying "two fat ladies 88" and "legs 11" because council officials fear players might take offence and sue.
Pensioner John Sayers, who runs weekly games in the town hall in Sudbury, Suffolk, said no-one had complained about being offended but a council clerk advised him to cut the traditional comic calls in case the authority found itself in hot water.
Pathetic, but typical! Stop the world I want to get off!

Re: Steam loco saves stranded passengers « Result #10 on Dec 25, 2009, 7:15pm »
"Yepp" I suppose they will build a few more now, (with our luck in France or Germany) for the winter service through the channel tunnel, "EuroSteam" ? Well it could not do no worse could it?
